Topgolf Debutes in China with Lounge Opening and Announces Plans for First Multi-level Venue
With the Lounge by Topgolf concept opening in Shanghai, the company now has venue operations that span six countries
DALLAS, Sept. 8, 2021 /PRNewswire/ -- Global sports and entertainment leader Topgolf Entertainment Group and its developer partner, Sports Entertainment Asia Ltd (SEAL), announced today the opening of its first Topgolf location in Shanghai, China. The Lounge by Topgolf, which will open to the public on September 14, will be the first Topgolf venue to operate in Mainland China. Additionally, SEAL has announced plans to construct its first outdoor, multi-level entertainment venue in Chengdu, China. The venue, which is slated to open in late 2022, will be the largest Topgolf venue in the world. This global expansion into China now brings Topgolf venue operations to a total of six countries, including the U.S., the U.K., Australia, Mexico and U.A.E. (Dubai). The global sports and entertainment company says it’s signed a multi-year franchise agreement with Sports Entertainment Asia H.K. Limited (or SEAL), aiming to develop more than 70 venues in Mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan and the Phillippines. Sports Entertainment Asia H.K. Limited was established in 2017 by Asian businessman Tony Hwang, and consists of Hong Kong-based Parkview Leisure & Entertainment Company Ltd. and a new division that will encompass the Topgolf business, which is also backed by two Austin-based private investment firms (JLM Financial Partners and Chaucer Global). Dolf Berle, Topgolf’s CEO, told Fortune that SEAL brings financial backing as well as operating and development expertise to the table.
